Policies
To ensure that we provide all Public Management Center participants with the best experience possible and that all expectations are on the table, we have developed the following policies.
We understand that certain circumstances may prevent you from attending an event or course you previously registered for. You may send someone else in your place to the same or a future offering*, but you must notify us of the change a minimum of three business days prior to the event/course. There is no fee for this substitution.
If sending someone else isn’t possible, consider these options instead.
- Registration can be canceled up to two weeks prior to the event/course. The registration fee will be refunded, minus a $50 per person administrative fee.
- Registrants who cancel less than two weeks in advance of the event/course will be responsible for a $150 per person administrative fee.
- Registrants who fail to cancel and do not attend will be responsible for payment of the $150 per person administrative fee.
- Registrants who attend any portion of the event/course and subsequently need to cancel will be charged for half of the cost of that event/course.
- No refund will be given for anyone who completes half a course/event.
We reserve the right to cancel an event/course and return fees if registration numbers are insufficient. The University of Kansas’ liability is limited to the registration fee. KU is not responsible for any losses incurred by registrants, including but not limited to airline cancelation charges or hotel deposits.
*For the Law Enforcement Leadership Academy, this substitute must be a sworn officer.

We accommodate people with disabilities. Please call 785-864-6864 to discuss your needs at least two weeks before the start of the program, if possible.
The University of Kansas prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, gender identity, gender expression, and genetic information in the university's programs and activities. Retaliation is also prohibited by university policy. The following person has been designated to handle inquiries regarding the nondiscrimination policies and is the Title IX coordinator for the university: Director of the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX, civilrights@ku.edu, Room 1082, Dole Human Development Center, 1000 Sunnyside Ave., Lawrence, KS 66045, 785-864-6414, 711 TTY.
From time to time, the KU Public Management Center (PMC) may take photographs or videos at its events (such as Inspiring Women in Public Administration Conference, Kansas City/County Manager Conference) and courses (including but not limited to classroom gatherings, program conferences, and program graduations).
We assume your attendance indicates your consent to having your image and/or voice used in future marketing and/or course materials. These materials may include publications, website content, promotional pieces, course handouts, and posts on social media, including but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.
You are consenting to a waiver of all rights and privileges to your images and/or likeness for the PMC's usage in marketing, community awareness, and all other publications the staff and instructors believe will benefit PMC. These items may or may not have captions identifying you by name and agency.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact Alex Terwilliger at alex.terwilliger@ku.edu.
